Michael Davis
Michael Davis was recently named vice president marketing
and sales of LBX Co., makers of Link-Belt Earthmoving, Forestry
and Material handling Equipment. Previously, Davis held the
title of director of marketing and sales with LBX.
As vice president, Davis is responsible for all North American
and international sales and marketing for the company's full
range of construction, forestry and material handling equipment.
Davis has a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics
from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Prior to joining
LBX he held management positions at Link-Belt Construction
Equipment Co. in Lexington and Scott Truck and Tractor in
Monroe. He also has worked with the Case Corp. in sales and
the Case Credit Corp.
Eric Paul Pellegrin
The Fall 2003 Contractors Educational Trust Fund Academic
Award for excellence in achieving the highest grade point
average in construction law was awarded to Eric Paul Pellegrin
of LSU.
Pellegrin achieved a 95.6 percent grade point average in
CM 4201 Construction Law. He graduated in December and will
begin his career with America's Home Place Inc. in Douglasville,
Ga.
Susan L. B. Jacobson
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) recently
inducted Susan L. B. Jacobson as its president for 2004.
Jacobson is the founder and owner of Bartells/Jacobson Design,
a private design firm located in Glen Ellyn, Ill., a suburb
of Chicago. A landscape architect in private and public practice
since 1978, she opened her own firm in 1990, specializing
in public works, parks and recreation, and commercial landscape
architecture projects.
She earned a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture
from the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana Campus.
An active member of ASLA since 1982, Jacobson was elected
to the ASLA Council of Fellows in 1995 and has held numerous
offices at both the state and national levels.
In addition to her volunteer work with the society, she has
presented lectures for the Garden Clubs of Illinois, the University
of Illinois, the Chicago Chapter of Women in Architecture
and area schools. She has served on the jury for the Indiana,
Texas and Vermont ASLA Chapters and for the University of
Illinois student awards program.
ASLA also inducted Patrick A. Miller as president-elect for
2004 and three vice presidents to two-year terms: Karen C.
Hanna, vice president of education; John H. Nicolaus, vice
president of communication; and Amy L. Schneckenburger, vice
president of public affairs.
Continuing service on the ASLA Executive Committee are Paul
F. Morris, immediate past president; C. Edward Curtin, vice
president of finance; Don H. Brigham Jr., vice president of
information and practice; and Sadik C. Artunc, vice president
of membership.
Founded in 1899, ASLA is the national professional association
for landscape architects representing 13,600 members of the
profession.
Tom Edwards
Tom Edwards was recently elected president of the Air Movement
and Control Association International Inc.
Edwards is currently the president of both the Ruskin Company
and Lau Industries Inc. Ruskin is a leading manufacturer in
the air control industry and Lau is a leading producer of
air movement components to the HVAC OEM market.
Throughout his career, Edwards has been a strong supporter
of AMCA International. He served as chairman of the Smoke
Management Systems Market Group and was elected to AMCA International's
Board in October 1995. Currently, he serves as vice president
on the Executive Committee.
Long an advocate of industry involvement in the code writing
process, Edwards was instrumental in AMCA International forming
the Code Action and Review Committee (CARC) and hiring a code
consultant to assist in its efforts.
In 1993, Edwards became the vice president of sales and marketing
for Ruskin Co. and Swartout Division. While serving as vice
president, he led the development of several application tools,
including all new literature for Ruskin, advertising materials
and training videos for fire, smoke dampers and control dampers.
In 1995, he was promoted to president. In addition to Ruskin
and Lau, Edwards also manages Reliable Products of Geneva,
Alabama and Ruskin Air Management Ltd., a UK air control and
air distribution company.
John Herc
Rob Newell, domestic sales manager of Stone Construction
Equipment Inc., recently announced the addition of John Herc
of Eden, N. Y., as regional manager.
Herc, formerly with DANA Corp., will be responsible for
the management of the southern region's direct and indirect
sales representatives.
Stone Construction Equipment Inc., a 100 percent employee-owned
company, specializes in design, manufacture and marketing
of construction equipment.
Sylvester Schmidt
Sylvester Schmidt, executive officer, technical services
for RMC Industries Corp. in Atlanta, Ga., has bee nominated
as chairman of the board - elect of the National Concrete
Masonry Association.
The nomination will be acted upon during the NCMA Board
of Directors meeting at the annual convention in February.
Once confirmed, he will serve as chairman-elect throughout
2004.
"It is a great honor to be nominated to become chairman-elect
of NCMA," Schmidt said. "This is a dynamic organization
filled with highly dedicated concrete masonry producers and
supporters of the concrete masonry and landscape products
industry. Together, we have a great opportunity to grow the
market for concrete masonry and landscaping products and I
feel confident we will meet this challenge."
Schmidt currently serves on the NCMA board of directors
as a representative from NCMA Region II, which includes the
eight southeastern states and Puerto Rico.
A member of NCMA's Executive Committee, Schmidt has also
spearheaded changes in the association's committee structure
that have resulted in streamlining committee activities and
reducing the number of committees.
Michael J. Sullivan
Michael J. Sullivan, general president of the Sheet Metal
Workers International Association, was recently honored with
Ivy Tech State College's Labor Hall of Fame Award and with
the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the highest honor conferred
by the governor of Indiana.
The Labor Hall of Fame award honors Indiana's labor leaders
for their contribution to trade education and the economy.
The governor awards the Sagamore of the Wabash award annually
to recognize outstanding contributions to the state of Indiana.
"Mike Sullivan was instrumental in establishing the
apprenticeship degree program at Ivy Tech and has championed
education and the trades throughout his career," said
Gerald Lamkin, president of Ivy Tech State College.
