James Construction Group builds new Westlake hydrogen facility

James Construction Group LLC (JCG) is performing the civil and mechanical phase of construction for a new hydrogen facility in Westlake.

Air Products and Chemicals Inc. will own and operate the new facility, with capacity in excess of 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of hydrogen to meet the growing hydrogen requirements of the nearby ConocoPhillips refinery.

JCG will also assist with the commissioning of the new plant, which is scheduled for start-up in spring 2004.

James Construction Group, headquartered in Baton Rouge, specializes in heavy, highway, industrial and environmental construction and maintenance services. JCG offices are located throughout the Gulf Coast states.

BOMAG Americas acquires Gilcrest's ProPaver Equipment

BOMAG Americas, formerly known as Compaction America, recently announced that it acquired Gilcrest's ProPaver equipment division on December 31, 2003.

"The ProPaver acquisition immediately broadens our product offering for asphalt applications and gives BOMAG a complementary product for its line of compaction equipment," said Mike Simpkins, president of BOMAG Americas Inc. "This product line extension will increase the value of the BOMAG franchise to distributors, while our customers will enjoy the convenience of being able to acquire both pavers and compaction equipment from a single source."

The ProPaver line includes five self-propelled tracked asphalt pavers and four towable wheeled asphalt pavers with application widths from 4 to 15 feet. The product line also includes an asphalt distributor for heating and spraying emulsified asphalt. All products are available immediately, marketed under the "ProPaver by BOMAG" brand name.

ProPaver products will continue to be manufactured at the established Warrensburg, Mo. facility - now designated "BOMAG Paving Products." Dan Taylor, general manager for ProPaver, will head the Warrensburg operations.

"What attracted us to ProPaver was the quality and depth of the product line and the strength of the company behind it," said Simpkins. "Altogether, this acquisition is a nice integral fit with our compaction equipment offering and we are already developing enhancements for this new product line."

Founded in 1971, Gilcrest has been manufacturing pavers and related construction equipment since 1991.

Louisiana ports lead U.S. in total cargo tonnage
